Our Curriculum
Curriculum Intent |
|||
We aim that our curriculum will enable all pupils, regardless of their starting points and backgrounds, to flourish at our school and be fully prepared for the next steps in their life and learning journey. |
|||
Curriculum Drivers |
|||
The St. Andrew’s CE Primary School curriculum is taught through four key drivers. These key drivers help us to interpret the National Curriculum and Early Years Framework in a way that is meaningful, meets the needs of our pupils and allows us to fulfil our school vision: “Roots to grow, Wings to fly – they will soar on wings like eagles.” |

Community & the wider world |
Connectivity |
We aim to enhance the learning experience for every pupil through providing a range of engaging experiences, within and beyond the classroom. We aim to broaden their horizons and give them a sense of connectivity to their local and the wider environment, the community and its people. |
Locality |
At. St. Andrew’s, we engage with our local area, through exploring significant landmarks and buildings, physical and historical features and through building partnerships with the people. We apply this engagement to the wider locality of Bristol and surrounding areas. |
|
Sustainability |
We believe our pupils deserve opportunities to experience the richness of the world’s diversity and develop an attitude of care and respect, understanding how actions and decisions impact upon it. We aim to raise awareness of issues which impact on the environment upon which we all depend, as well as actions we can take to improve and sustain it. |
|
Contribution |
We have a strong sense of community at our school. We aim to help pupils understand that they are all part of a school, local and global community, to gain a sense of place and understand that they play a part in our world’s future. |
|
Excellence |
Curiosity |
At St. Andrew’s CE Primary School, our curriculum promotes curiosity, engagement and love of learning. Being curious is to learn and understand more; to ask questions and be inquisitive about the world we live in and our place within it. |
Critical thinking |
We aim to provide our pupils with the tools and vocabulary to be critical thinkers. They will have the opportunity to evaluate and critically appraise, orally or in writing, their own work and that of others. |
|
Creative thinking |
We want our pupils to be creative thinkers, who can express themselves and share their thoughts, reasoning, questions and ideas with others. |
|
Aspiration |
We want our pupils to be nurtured, supported and challenged to be the best versions of themselves. |
|
Identity & diversity |
Diversity |
We celebrate and teach about diversity so that pupils are tolerant, compassionate and have a desire to learn and know from others. Understanding and accepting differences, including religion and beliefs, is essential to life in Modern Britain. |
Values |
We promote British and our school values across our curriculum, through our learning and in our relationships. |
|
Self-worth |
We want our pupils to have belief and confidence in themselves. We want them to view themselves as unique, valuable members of their school and the wider community. |
|
Life skills |
Independence |
We believe it is extremely important for our pupils to develop independence and make well-informed decisions for themselves. Being independent allows our pupils to transition to secondary school full of confidence, self-belief and self-sufficiency. |
Problem-solving |
All pupils should be exposed to problems. We feel that it is vital that we help prepare children to solve problems in a variety of ways. There is rarely just one way to solve a problem, and it might not be solved the first time. |
|
Resilience |
Experiencing change or a challenge can be difficult for children and adults, but at St. Andrew’s CE Primary School, we teach how to deal with tricky situations and when things go right and when they go wrong. Resilience is a crucial life skill and therefore, we encourage our children to be resilient in a range of situations. |
|
Cooperation & conflict |
Working effectively in a team or group can build vital communication and cooperative skills. In addition, it will help build leadership skills and develop respect and tolerance for others. We promote the importance of active listening. |
